In the past week alone between 80/35 & the Nitefall on the River series we’ve had loads of fabulous and famous acts come into our beautiful city! Both of these events are such great exposure to what the city of Des Moines has to offer.
Wednesday night’s festivities for the Nitefall series that takes place at Simon Estes Riverfront Amphitheater included acts from The Wailers & Matisyahu. What an incredible show!! The Wailers were the opening band, and played all the classic Bob Marley Tunes. Talk about comfort food for the soul, music style. They played all the classics like “One Love”, “ 3 little Birds” & “No Woman No Cry.”
The highlight of the evening though, was of course Matisyahu. If you aren’t familiar with Matisyahu – you should be. His entrance alone was indication that a stellar show was going to follow. His style is described as Hasidic Jewish Reggee .. and he DOES, after all, bust out some phat beatboxing all while wearing a Yakima, so if anything – he’s unique.
The show started out with some classics from his first studio album “Shake off the Dust… Arise” including two of my personal favorites King without a crown and Jeruselum. The Crowd went WILD when he played Youth from his 2nd album titled “Youth”. My personal favorite song and performance of the night was absolutely One Day from his album “Light”.
He included everyone into the performance, including the people on the bridge and when I looked around, EVERYONE was dancing! Absolutely amazing show, Matisyahu! Please come back to our city again next year.
