I put together some awards to wrap up my sentiments of the 80/35 shows this past weekend:
Break Out Performance: Rebel Creek
These guys are so stupid good it blows my mind. I still can hardly believe they are so young too. Keep your eye on this band for sure.
Best Party: Girl Talk
I’m still sweating. Enough said.
Bringing the Funk: Galactic
I am so glad that so many people got exposed to this band finally. I can’t tell you how many times I heard that people couldn’t wait to download some Galactic after their performance.
The Underdog: the Macpodz
With the Kum and Go stage running behind, the Macpodz were competing with the closing headliners, of Montreal. I am so glad I chose to check out the Macpodz though. What an ass shaking good time.
Showstopper: Grace Potter and the Nocturnals
The pipes on this chic are amazing.
Des Moines’ New Favorite: Blackalicious
The most asked question of the weekend was who was the best performance of the weekend, and Blackalicious was answered more than another other band.
The Local Love: Parlours
Des Moines loves this band and I am no different.
Knock Your Socks Off: Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band
I knew nothing about this band prior to 80/35, and I’m sure many others were in the same boat. But I am sure I am not alone that I walked away a new fan.
The Ringer: of Montreal
Perfect end to a perfect weekend. of Montreal was certainly a crowd favorite and did not disappoint.
DSMVibe Award: The Des Moines Music Coalition
Huge thanks to the DMMC and all of the volunteers that made this incredible weekend happen.
