If you have never been to a show at the Vaudeville Mews in downtown Des Moines, you are missing out. This hidden gem is tucked in neatly on 4th street, in conveniently close proximity to local favorites The Royal Mile, The Lift and Fong’s. For those of you not familiar with Des Moines, if you ever find yourself in our humble city, these places should definitely find a spot on your “must see” list.

The Mews is a cozy music venue that is reminiscent of east coast clubs such as CBGB. You are more likely to find a can of Busch Light in patrons’ hands rather than a fruity martini; and the dress code is anything goes. Girls, don’t plan on spending 20 minutes in the bathroom checking your makeup because the mirror is covered with band stickers from years of wicked shows.

The Mews boasts a slew of CD release shows for many of the area’s favorite bands. During a recent chat with Cashes Rivers, he explained that to be legit, you play at the Mews.

If you have yet to stop in for a show then you are missing out. It is a great venue for an intimate acoustic performance, but can just as equally hold a rock your face off night.
